stewards for the Great Meadow unit of Stewart B. McKinney National Wildlife Refuge

The New Haven Bird Club is looking for volunteers to be stewards for the Great Meadow unit of Stewart B. McKinney National Wildlife Refuge. The commitment will be up to six visits a year.

The goal is to have a presence at Great Meadows to report any issues (to be the eyes and ears of the National Wildlife Service ), perform wildlife census, and to interface with visitiors at the refuge.

A volunteer will need to go through some training with the US Fish and Wildlife Service, recieve an ID card and a uniform and visit Great Meadow up to six times a year. A simple report will be filed
after each visit and will include a bird census. We are looking to have a once a week visit by one of the volunteers throughout the year.

Great Meadow has gone through some great improvements including trailhead parking and a clear trail to two observation platforms looking out to the salt marsh meadow.

We will start with a handful of volunteers to start a pilot program and then later expand it out to others.

Please contact me if you are interested in volunteering for this important program.

Thanks
