WHITE HORSES OF THE CAMARGUE, France with Adam Jones

WHITE HORSES OF THE CAMARGUE, France -- April 15 -22, 2012

Group size limited to 14 (Two Instructors) Adam Jones & Jim Zuckerman
Tour cost: $3875
Single supplement: $1375

Even if you don’t ride horses, you have to appreciate their beauty and grace when they are in motion. They are magnificent, powerful, and very exciting to photograph.
In the Spring of 2012, I am co-leading a photo workshop with Jim Zuckerman to photograph the white horses of the Camargue.

This is a marshy region in southern France where the horses have been living for 5000 years. The Romans knew them, and whenever you see a painting of Napolean rearing on a white horse, he was riding one of these wonderful horses.

During the workshop, we will photograph them running through a marsh, running in the surf at the beach, and running free in a field. In addition, we will have a session with mothers and foals (the young horses are born black and it takes them five years to turn white). We will have six sessions with them at sunrise and sunset to take advantage of the best lighting, and this very special photo opportunity may very well produce some of the best images you’ve ever taken. This will constitute the first half of the workshop, and the latter half will include photographing some of southern France’s most beautiful towns and villages. We will also visit a beautifully preserved Roman aquaduct, and we will do twilight photography to capture the stunning combination of a cobalt blue sky with the golden artificial lights on medieval architecture.

My co-leader in this workshop is Jim Zuckerman, a sensational photographer and extremely knowledgeable instructor. Jim and I complement each other, and you’ll benefit tremendously from our 80 years of combined experience in photography.

Tour cost: $3875, Single supplement: $1375

Price includes all lodging, six photo sessions with the white horses, all ground transportation, all breakfasts, two dinners, and photo instruction.

Price does not include international and domestic airfare, meals except those noted above, tips, drinks, alcoholic beverages, and items of a personal nature.

Itinerary
  • Day 1: Sunday, April 15. Depart US for the trans-Atlantic journey to Marseilles in the south of France.
  • Day 2: Monday, April 16. Arrival in Marseilles. You will be met and driven to Arle which will be our base of operations for our six sessions with the beautiful white horses. After dinner, evening photography of this beautiful French town is on the agenda.
  • Day 3 – 5: Tuesday through Thursday, April 17-19. You will get some of the most exciting pictures ever as we have six photo sessions with the horses. They will run through the marsh right into our cameras at sunrise and sunset, plus we will have an incredible session at the beach. We will also shoot mothers and foals, stallions, and the herd running around us as we shoot them in beautiful lighting.
  • Day 6 – 7: Friday and Saturday, April 20 – 21. In these two days we will explore Provence and photograph many wonderful places including a stunning and dramatic 2000 year old Roman aqueduct, the classically beautiful cloister at Saint Paul de Mausole in St. Remy de Provence, and a fortified palace in Avignon
  • Day 8: Saturday, April 22. We drive to Marseilles this morning for our departure from France after having taken truly memorable photographs.
If you are interested in this workshop, send me an e-mail, adam@adamjonesphoto.com and I’ll send you the trip enrollment form.

"My general approach for an all day seminar is to present two shows: The day is kicked off with a Nature and Wildlife show. A second show is presented during the afternoon session, featuring Travel destinations. Both shows are presented without music, so audience participation is encouraged during all programs. The program is entitled "Through the Lens of Adam Jones." During the Nature program I discuss strategies and techniques for outstanding nature and wildlife images."

Morning: Nature and Wildlife Show (This program highlights strategies and techniques for outstanding nature and wildlife images)

Afternoon: Travel Show (This program highlights travel from 9 different countries and demonstrates techniques and strategies for great travel images.)

Both shows are presented without music, so audience participation is encouraged during all programs. At least three of the following four programs will also be presented.

1. Taking Control: Covers Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO, and Focus; Where to be in control of these variables, and how to use them creatively using side by side image comparisons.

2. Lighting & Composition: Centers on developing your awareness of natural light and learning to use the elements of design to create award winning compositions. Flash will also be discussed.

3. Extending the Limits: Focuses on photo realistic HDR (High Dynamic Range) imaging; Helicon Focus software for unlimited depth of field; Expo Disc for correct white balance in the field; and the use DXO Optics pro for batch converting raw images.

4. Photoshop: Demonstrates Adam’s workflow through Adobe Camera Raw and DXO Optics Pro using raw images. Also includes demo stitching panoramic images, and unlimited depth of field via Helicon Focus.
