Thursday (6/23/16) Topaz released Topaz Impression 2, an updated version of their painterly effect software, complete with new features. As always, their update is free to anyone who already owns Impression.
Topaz Impression generates natural painterly effects by painting brushstrokes one at a time. (It just does this very fast!) Impression can paint over 10,000 brushstrokes in less than a second, all while completely following your artistic direction, making truly personal art that you can call your own.
If you’re already familiar with Impression, the updated release of Impression 2, gives you more powerful processing with a completely redesigned framework and the following additional features:
• 30+ New effects - Impression 2 now comes with over 140 effects!
• Larger Brush Panel - no more squinting to find the brush you need.
• Masking - Impression 2 now includes masking in application! Using a brush, color range, luminosity range, or spot masking, the masking panel even includes our color aware tool.
• Topaz Community - now you can share your created effects with the other users of Impression 2 with a click of a button. Not seeing an effect you like? Browse the Topaz Community to surf an ocean of custom user made effects.
• New brush customization options:
- “Number of strokes” options to change the number of strokes applied to the image.
- “Large Brush Volume” that adjust paint volume in large areas of color to help focus on the details.
- “Stroke “Rotation Variation” to add randomness to your effect strokes.
• Highlight and Shadow control in the lighting menu.
• Support for High DPI (4k) monitors in Windows 7/8/10
...and much more.

High and Extended Dynamic Range - Take Photographs and Process Them Register Here.
Course #CT01 Lisa Cuchara
High and extended dynamic range photography – not something that every artist does. But, if you're looking to expand your talent and skills, then this is your opportunity! We will go on location, exploring a site that has incredible texture and detail. Spend some time on a photo shoot and then process the images later the same day. You'll learn the right camera set up, explore how to take the best photos, and then discuss the post-processing steps in detail. Come prepared for an educational, fun-filled day as you master HDR!
Items to Bring: Camera and tripod image editing session - watch me and follow along on the screen. You may also bring your laptop and practice editing. $10 admission fee for the shooting location. Post-processing will utilize ACR (Adobe Camera RAW) (found in Photoshop and Lightroom CC) and the HDRsoft Photomatix program (trial version is fine), money for lunch
Editing isn't just a few key-clicks and retouches. To do it well takes skill, talent, and knowledge so that your photos look natural and real. In this class, you'll combine creativity with technical expertise as you learn to edit your images. Explore layers and masks. Discover how applying textures can enhance your images. Delve into blend modes, as well as artistic uses for soft light, multiply, lighten and screen modes. Best of all, this class is hands-on! Bring your camera to shoot some images (textures) in the morning. Then, you'll hear Lisa Cuchara's engaging presentation on how to edit, and then you'll start doing it yourself! Please bring a few images of your own so you can continue practicing in the afternoon. Take your creativity and skills to the next level – your clients will love you for it!

Lisa Cuchara's Work Wins Awards at Connecticut Professional Photographers of America (CTPPA) Annual Convention
Six prints created by Lisa Cuchara of BREA Photos in Hamden have recently been awarded Blue ribbons (Award of Expert) at the Connecticut Professional Photographers of America's 2016 Annual Print Competition. Lisa's work was on display at the Sheraton Hartford South, March 18-20 2018, in Rocky Hill, CT. This exhibition was held in conjunction with the CTPPA convention, an annual convention of professional photographers and photographic associations. Lisa's portrait website can be viewed at www.BREAphotos.com and her creativity and teaching website can be viewed at www.photographybylisaandtom.com.
Lisa also won CTPPA Photographer of the Year in the ART/EI category (based on the total accumulated points) from all four quarterly competitions and CTPPA Photographer of the Year in the Creative category (based on the total accumulated points) from all four quarterly competitions. This is the third year in a row that Lisa has won CTPPA Photographer of the Year in those two categories.
A panel of five eminent jurors selected the top images from all of the submitted entries. Judged against a standard of excellence, Lisa's images were selected for awards — the best of the best. Lisa's photographs entitled "Frog on Calla Lily" (highest scoring print of the 2016 convention), "Veiled chameleon", "Prison tough", "Barn with star trails and first light", "Disoriented at the Insane Asylum" and "Left behind" all earned Award of Expert Blue ribbons. Lisa also won a Judge's Choice award for one of her photographs and the Kodak award for another one of her photographs. Her photograph "Frog on Cala Lily" was the highest scoring image at the annual print competition. The total of the her six photographs earned Lisa the 2016 CTPPA Treskunoff Award (for the highest total point score for the 6 prints entered at the CTPPA convention).
