Fourteenth Annual Hawk Migration Workshop

Saturday, October 3rd (raindate Sunday, October 4th), 9am-2pm. Fourteenth Annual Hawk Migration Workshop. http://www.mohonkpreserve.org/

Join Tom Sarro, Mohonk Preserve Research Associate and avid birder, and learn about wild raptors of the local area.

The program begins with an indoor presentation, introducing silhouettes and other means of distinguishing migrating species in flight. Then, enjoy a short hike to the “Hawk Watch” where experts will help you identify the hawks, ospreys, and other birds riding thermal air currents above the Shawangunk Ridge. Bring binoculars, lunch, and appropriate outdoor wear. Ages 12 and up are welcome. Children must always be accompanied by an adult. This program includes a moderate, 1-mile hike, with a short, steep, uphill scramble. Reservations are required; sign up begins 9/7/09. Call 845-255-0919 for reservations and meeting location. The fee for this program is $18 for Mohonk Preserve members and $28 for non-members (includes a day pass which allows hiking access to Preserve lands for a full day, sunrise to sunset, and can be credited for up to two weeks towards a membership). There are no refunds after 9/25.
