Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced the launch of "Connecticut - Your Staycation Destination" a summer program offering discounts for Connecticut residents at hundreds of attractions showcased throughout the state. Connecticut families can expect a season of savings when they visit amusement parks, museums, restaurants, hotels, vineyards, sporting venues and parks. The program runs through Labor Day and will help residents make the most of their vacation dollars while enjoying some of the finest attractions in the New England."More so than any other summer in recent history, many Connecticut families are forgoing their vacations due to the overall state of the economy, in particular record gas prices," Governor Rell said.

"Thankfully, Connecticut residents do not have to travel far to enjoy wonderful and exciting summertime experiences."The destinations and discounts will be featured on the state's CTvisit.com Web site, managed by the Commission on Culture & Tourism. The state also is exploring opportunities to expand the Staycation program into the fall."To help families discover all Connecticut has to offer and to create a lifetime of memories this summer, I am launching the Connecticut Staycation Destination program," Governor Rell said. "Thanks to a partnership between our local businesses and the state, Connecticut residents will be able to experience attractions throughout the state at discounted rates."

As of July 1, more than 300 venues and businesses have signed up to be a part of the Staycation Destination program. Those businesses agreed to provide a variety of discounts that include reduced admission rate, free merchandise, discounted room rates and more to Connecticut residents. "The variety of discounts and regional packages being offered by venues throughout the state is tremendous," Governor Rell said. "Clearly, our emphasis is providing families with a great summer, but we also see this program as an opportunity to help our local businesses - introducing more residents to what they have to offer and building loyal customers for years to come, no matter what time of year it is."

I encourage Connecticut residents to visit the CTvisit website throughout the summer to learn about the exciting adventures awaiting them. While providing families with a summer they will never forget we will be helping them to save on gas, save on admission and lodging rates and open their eyes to endless recreational and cultural opportunities in this great state," Governor Rell concluded.
