In this video we will show you a simple camera technique that will help you produce a deep depth of field, even when shooting with mid to wide lens apertures. Called “focus stacking”, it’s a technique that every photographer should be aware of.
We start off explaining why keeping close up images sharp even at small apertures is a problem, and then show a set of images shot at F5.6 on a table top to use as a demonstration. The video then moves on to discuss various software available for producing focus stacking images. Using
Photoacute Studio we combine our table top demo images and compare the results to the same image shot at F16. For those of you without this this software, we then use Photoshop to show another more “manual” method of doing focus stacking. In conclusion, we briefly show some tips and settings when shooting images for focus stacking, and outline an experiment shooting focus stacking outside in the landscape.
