We’re avid nature photographers and hikers who love to photograph wildlife and the scenic beauty around us. We have hiked most of the national parks in the East, including Acadia, Shenandoah, Everglades, Congaree, and the Great Smoky Mountains. We’ve also photographed many parks in the West, including Yosemite, Sequoia, Grand Canyon, Saguaro, Haleakala, and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. We also enjoy visiting the national wildlife refuges, such as those in Chincoteague, VA, Bombay Hook, DE, Pinckney Island, SC, Blackwater, MD, and the San Francisco Bay, CA.

Our prints have been sold to private collectors as well as published in magazines. We’ve both won awards in regional and national photo competitions, including being a finalist in the Smithsonian Magazine's 2011 annual photo contest. Two of our nature photographs are featured in the Chesapeake Bay Foundation's 2011 Calendar. Our photo was also on the cover of the 2009 Chesapeake Bay Foundation calendar. Our photographs are currently for sale in a local gallery. We currently reside in the California Bay Area, after previously living in Virginia for many years. For inquiries, contact us at

Yosemite Moonbow

Yosemite Moonbow

Moonbows, also known as lunar rainbows, are an amazing natural phenomenon that occur at night by the light of the full moon (they are essentially night rainbows). Moonbows can be seen in various places around the world, but one of the most famous locations is Yosemite Falls in Yosemite National Park, California.
The best time to photograph moonbows in Yosemite is usually in April, May, or June, during the full moon.

The SlingShot: A Tripod and Stabilizer in One!

Sure, you could use your hands to hold your phone. But we're living in the future, and it's time we started acting like it!
Introducing the SlingShot, a stabilizer and tripod in one: it's a steadying grip with folding kickstand legs and a ball-head mount that fits any phone (even the iPhone 5).
Take it with you for fantastic phone video and great shots at hard-to-get angles or low light!

The SlingShot $20 at the Photojojo Store

p.s. Enter our photo challenge for a chance to get your photo shown at Photo Hack Day in Berlin & to win a Camera Cooler Bag! Here's how to enter.

What is the "golden hour"?...

Great post on weekly  photography tips

What is the "golden hour"?...

As Vincent Versace says, "people think that early morning is for breakfast and that late afternoon is for dinner, early morning and late afternoon are for taking pictures...  the time to be shooting is when the sun rises and when the sun sets because that's the prettiest light... people think they are photographing the subject, they're photographing the light, the subject just happens to get in the way of it, it's how the light hits our subject that makes an image interesting".

If you would like to find out when the golden hour will be appearing in your neck of the woods you can use the online Golden Hour Calculator. Not only is there a web version, but they also have a free (and a paid) app for your iPhone and your iPad.

Another App option (for both the iPhone and iPad) is the Magic Hour, it's free and has a count down clock displaying when the next magic hour will be or when you are in it, how much time is left.

20 Incredible Pictures of Owls

20 Incredible Pictures of Owls

"The owl is a mysterious creature that you usually only see in captivity or hear calling at night. Then again, maybe some of you have had better luck seeing them in the wild than I have. If you do have a chance to see them up close, their wise face and big eyes are a perfect opportunity for some incredible pictures."
