Backyard Photography: Hummers in Summer 101
By Bill Corbett.
"It takes time to get out and shoot every day, but it‘s the best way to improve your skills. That’s a reason to be a backyard photographer. My favorite backyard project, so far, is capturing hummingbirds in summer.
All you need is a hummingbird feeder ($25 and up) filled with home-made sugar water. It helps a lot to live near a wooded area. But regardless of whether you do or not, you will be surprised at how quickly and frequently your feeder will be found. August is a great month to get started, before the birds head south.Place a chair about ten to fifteen feet away, preferably against a wall or in a natural nook. Keep a cool drink at hand and a book in your lap; the birds will seem to come more quickly. Even if they don’t, I enjoy being outside in the early evening. You can sit and await the birds throughout the daylight hours."
