and incredibly diverse, orchids are the most unrivalled in the plant
world. They are the largest family of flowering plants with over 30,000
different species plus hybrids. Orchids can grow in the tropics, arctic
tundra, and any place in-between. The reason for the diversity is their
amazing ability to adapt to the given environment. With so many unique
orchid varieties that can thrive in so many different growing
conditions, it is easy to find an orchid that is well suited to the
conditions that you can provide .... a kitchen counter top, the front
end table in the foyer, your bedroom nightstand near the sheer-curtained
window. There are many, many orchid varieties that make excellent house
plants.

by the original Connecticut Orchid Society, The 'Orchid Harvest' Show
and Sale is taking place this weekend at Van Wilgen's Main Nursery &
Retail Center in North Branford.The greenhouse has
been transformed into an elegant, AOS-sanctioned judged orchid
exhibition. The bench show is judged on Friday morning, and then opens
to the public on Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday, October 19-21,
2012. It's the perfect opportunity to treat yourself to an impressive
show, attend an orchid lecture, enter a raffle and enjoy a delicious
meal. And it's the ideal time to complete your shopping for all your
fall gardening needs. We have pulled more Van Wilgen Grown mums and
cabbage/kale from our growing fields, potted many more hanging baskets
and cones, and added loads and loads of carving, sugar and speciality
pumpkins, plus the most unique fall decorations around. And there's
still plenty of plants to choose from in our '40% Off all Perennials,
