Sample Lesson from Greeting Card Design for Photoshop Users

Free Lesson – TEXTURE BACKGROUNDS
1. Open image with white or other solid background.
2. Double click the Background layer to get an editable layer that will be called Layer 0.
3. Select the solid color with the Magic Wand tool and Edit > Cut . There will be transparent (checkered) areas.
4. Create a new layer.
5. Double click a choice from Graphics > Type > Backgrounds. I chose Red Grunge Burlap.
6. Move the image layer above the textured layer.
7. Add text if desired.
