Orchis

My name is Cemal Ekin and I am a Rhode Island photographer. I am writing to ask for your help to inform the members of your club of a unique blend of photographic art, dance, and music. It is the original ballet Orchis that had the world gala last March and dazzled the audiences. The ballet was inspired by a collection of my photographs of dried orchid blossoms. Misha, the artistic director of Festival Ballet Providence commissioned a ballet, choreographed by Viktor Plotnikov, with original music by Sonya Belausova. I presented a short segment of Orchis at the last years NECCC conference before the keynotes speaker. You might have seen it, or heard about it from friends.

This year Festival Ballet Providence will perform Orchis again as one of the pieces in Boundless Plotnikov. Orchis will be of interest to many art lovers, but especially for us photographers since it was inpired by photographs and very prominently features them in the video presentation I created for this purpose. I am very proud to be at the genesis of the ballet and the amazing art mixture it offers. During the entire performance of Orchis you will experience photographs being projected on to 15' x 20' screen while the dancers move mostly in line with the photographs. Ticketing tip: To avoid "Convenience surcharge" I highly recommend ordering tickets on the phone and picking them up in person. This will save $6-$7 per ticket, which can easily add up for group purchases. Tickets picked up at the ticket office are not assessed this fee.
