Santa Fe Photographic Workshops CUBA

I'm leading a tour to Cuba

A legitmate trip from the US with Santa Fe Photographic Workshops

Hey everyone! I've got an amazing opportunity to lead a group of 14 photographers on a trip to Havana next year. The trip is April 17th - 24th 2013. We will meet in Miami on the 16th of April and fly in to Cuba from there. You all on the mailing list are the first to get in on this. Here are the details...

As the eyes of the world turn to the small but resilient island in the Caribbean Sea, Seeing Cuba offers you the rare opportunity to engage with the Cuban people and discover and explore the country’s cultural diversity and her physical beauty with your camera. Join me for a memorable journey to this beguiling country before it changes forever.
To offer you unparalleled access to the inhabitants and culture of Cuba, two English-speaking, Havana- based Cuban photographers serve as your local guides and translators for this cultural exploration program. In alliance with Cuba’s premier photographic organization, Fototeca de Cuba, and its director, Nelson Ramírez, our unique program allows U.S. participants to learn about Cuba’s long and colorful history and engage directly with Cubans from all walks of life.
In addition to visiting and interacting with Cubans at the historic sites and cultural centers of Old Havana, we venture to nearby neighborhoods to discover an authentic Cuba that lies beneath the tourist veil. The tree-lined suburban neighborhood of Vedado provides diversity of architecture and living conditions to better understand the Cuban people and their urban lifestyle. A day-long excursion outside Havana allows a close view of the island’s beautiful countryside and offers the unique opportunity to discover rural Cuba through photography.
True to the requirements of our people-to-people license with U.S. Treasury Department, Seeing Cuba focuses on exchanges with the Cuban people and recording their amazing lives with our cameras. There will not be structured photo instruction nor group critiques.

What this means... We won't be holding a "workshop" with a structured class environment. We can't do that due to the agreement we have to go to the country. I can demo and talk through things as we are out shooting. We'll be spending time together at the end of the day discussing our time, our work, and all of that. Any "instruction" is casual and unstructured.

We'll be getting to experience something that is difficult for us US citizens to do. We'll have guides, access, and an all around amazing time in Cuba.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: This workshop is for advanced amateur and professional photographers. Participants need to be technically self-sufficient, as this is not a workshop to learn how to use your gear or editing software. Participants should be in good health as long days are spent exploring (this means walking) Havana and the countryside.
PACKAGE PRICE: $3,995, includes: round-trip airfare from Miami to Havana; double occupancy accommodations for seven nights in Havana (single supplement add $600); breakfast daily plus two group meals; airport transfers and ground transportation; and all visas and licenses. A $45 application fee will also be charged. Airfare to Miami and hotel accommodations in Miami are not included.
NOTE: Participants are required to attend a group meeting at 8pm, Tuesday night, April 16 at the Airport Marriott in Miami.
ENROLLMENT LIMITED TO 14 PARTICIPANTS.
