Foliage and More in the Connecticut River Valley

10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
First stop is at the Florence Griswold Museum http://www.flogris.org/ on the banks of the beautiful Lieutenant River in Lyme, CT. Entrance to the grounds is free. The museum features a retrospective of Walker Evans iconic Depression and Post-Depression photographs. The museum grounds offer many opportunities to photograph fall foliage. Admission to the museum--$13.00 Seniors, $14.00 Adults.
12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m.
Downtown Essex for lunch and photographing the waterfront and buildings and foliage along Main Street (I’m eating lunch at the historic Griswold Inn http://www.griswoldinn.com). If you are interested, stop in at the Connecticut River Museum http://www.ctrivermuseum.org/
2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Essex Steam Train and Riverboat http://www.essexsteamtrain.com/. Take the train only or both train and riverboat Train only, $17.00, Combination $26.00 OR just walk around the train yard and photograph old railcars and engines.
OR
Drive up to Chester and take the Chester-Hadlyme ferry http://www.ct.gov/dot/cwp/view.asp?a=1380&Q=259724&dotPNavCtr to Gillette Castle State Park. The castle is closed for the season, but the grounds overlooking the Connecticut River are spectacular.
OR
Drive up to East Haddam and photograph the historic buildings including Goodspeed Opera House, the Gelston House and the oldest operating swing bridge in The United States.
