Using a proprietary technology, Topaz Clarity effectively improves local contrast without halos or noise, giving you remarkable results with minimal effort.
Topaz Clarity uses proprietary technology that allows you to
quickly and easily adjust various levels of
contrast with no halos or artifacts.
The results are compelling images with a very natural look. Here is a quick look at some of the features:
Clarity
Module- The Dynamics section of this module
allows you to selectively adjust contrast in your image, without adding halos
or artifacts, resulting in a very natural looking, yet compelling image. The contrast sliders range from micro to
high, and refer to the original image contrast variations allowing you to
increase or decrease the contrast in that specific variation. The highlight of this module is the ability
to adjust mid-tone contrast quickly and easily, something that would normally
take many steps to achieve.
The
Tone section gives you the ability to adjust the tone levels to retain a high
range of tones in your image. It
includes black, white, and mid-tone sliders that can bring back details in the
shadows and highlights that would normally be lost with high contrast
adjustments.
HSL
Module- Topaz Clarity is the first to use a
quality enhancement method in the Hue, Saturation, and Luminance adjustment
module, which can produce strong adjustments with much less artifacts and
noise. The HSL module allows you to
selectively enhance specific colors in your image.
Over
100 Presets- they have categorized the presets by types of photography (enables you to quickly
identify which presets would be most useful for their particular image).

How to Use Photography to Help in Natural Disasters — Operation Photo Rescue
|
Sadly, it doesn’t always work out that way. While many are grateful to survive a natural disaster, they’re still left devastated from the loss of everything they own. The worst of it might just be the loss of irreplacable family photos. Operation Photo Rescue is a league of photographers and graphic designers who set out to help survivors get their treasured memories back. OPR’s first mission was Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Since then, they’ve restored 9,000+ photos in other disasters like Hurricane Sandy. If you’re itching to help, OPR’s always looking for skilled photo restorers and fundraising. You can help folks get back photos from their wedding day, that regal portrait of their great of grandpa, and snapshots of their daughter’s first birthday. Won’t that feel awesome? ISO - What it is, What it does, Why it matters
from Mollie and Mary
"There is a great deal of confusion over ISO. Many people do not understand what it is, or how it impacts their photographs. This article will cut through the misinformation and will give you a better understanding of how to set the ISO to your best advantage in different shooting situations."
"Simply stated, ISO is an easy way for you to control how sensitive your camera (actually, the camera’s sensor) is to light."Read the entire article here

Join us for a workshop on Night photography at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery on Friday, May 31, 2013
Night photography
at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery
Friday, May 31, 2013(7:30 PM to 1:00 AM)
540 North Broadway, Sleepy Hollow, NY
We have special after hours access to Sleepy Hollow Cemetery! (Just over an hours drive from Hamden, CT). The cemetery usually closes at 4:30pm but we will be there after dark. We will meet at the gate by 7:30pm and shoot until 1:30am! You will how to control the ambient light with your long exposures and the local light with your flashlight.
We will spend the first part of the session going over camera settings and tips for long exposures, light painting etc. We will be there for sunset at ~8:13pm, but more importantly AFTER sunset, the blue hour and then the stars. We are meeting at 7:30pm so you have time to get your camera set up, look at some mausoleums, sculptures, etc.
Take exposures less than 30 seconds for pinpoint stars or 1-5 minutes to capture the star trails, point your camera at the north star and get star trails (8-60 minute exposures); light the headstones, walk among them and be a ghost in your own image, the sky is the limit.
Things to Bring:
- dSLR
- Sturdy tripod
- Cable release (you will be shooting for more than 30 seconds so you need a cable release)
- RED Flashlight (Walmart sells them or use red cellophane or red overheads from staples and tape to flashlight)
- Small flashlight for light painting
- Water, Snack (there is a bathroom on the premises)
- Sturdy shoes (hiking boots provide good ankle support) and appropriate outdoor clothing, layers in case it gets cold, bug spray??

- Q&A
Hello, Art Wolfe is teaching a seminar in Boston on the 15th
of June of this year. As you may know, he taught a similar seminar
last year and the Boston audience was so enthusiastic we decided to
offer it again. As an attempt to give
back to the local photo community we like to offer a discount that
camera clubs can pass onto their members.
We are currently working with Hunts Photo in Boston
and I have offered a similar discount to the customers of that store.
You will see I have attached a promotional document that includes
information regarding the discount for Hunts Photo,
I would provide a coupon code and mention your camera club in a similar
fashion.
I have also attached an additional promotional document in case you would like to help us to get the word out.
Please let me know if you are interested in securing this discount for your camera club members.
Thank You,
Libby

Cape Cod with John Barclay and Jeff Lovinger
Cape Cod – Massachusetts
With Jeff Lovinger
November 7 – November 10, 2013
$595.00
Due to the overwhelming response to this workshop, Jeff has agreed to do it again in 2013!
All Cape Cod workshops begin Thursday afternoon with a get together and a sunset shoot, and end Sunday morning, after a sunrise shoot, and a wrap up breakfast. We will be going out for sunrise/morning and sunset/evening shoots on Friday and Saturday as well. During the day, I will critique some of your chosen photos, and go over different techniques, etc. This is a general itinerary. Each day’s schedule varies due to the location we visit that day, how long we shoot, and it can change depending on the weather.
We will be based in Provincetown, on the tip of Cape Cod. We will be photographing in the dunes, national seashore, light houses, beaches, harbor…. capturing wonderful reflections. Provincetown has an active working harbor, and can be very interesting at sunrise. This is a great place to photograph and explore the small New England houses and gardens, capturing windows and doorways. Of course the people and many characters of town are wonderful subjects.
One of the goals of this workshop is to guide you to make photographs with more impact. We will help you to develop your photographic vision. We’ll cover the quality of natural light, color, visual depth, visual design, and composition in landscape and close up technique. You will learn how to creatively photograph using different techniques and lenses, and we will be teaching HDR (high Dynamic range), how to use Lensbaby lenses, with Nikon and Canon Lensbaby loaners, creative camera movement, and more. We encourage you to read your manual, and know how to use your camera when you get to the workshop. This will help you move forward with creativity and vision.
Jeff has been living and photographing at the tip of Cape Cod for about 30 years. Many of his award winning images, have been featured in magazines, and articles over the years.
Participants usually stay at the Lotus Guest House in Provincetown, where wokshop attendees receive a lodging discount. Deposit information at the bottom of this page.
