"One of the most exciting things about running a photography site is getting to know people from all over the world. Holger Wagner, a nature photographer from Germany, contact me about two years ago on photographing birds in Florida. After reading my articles on how to photograph birds and my post on Florida birding near Orlando, he contacted me for suggestions and my favorite spots. After he came back from his trip, he sent me some stunning pictures that he captured in Florida. While browsing through his website, I checked out some of his other work and within minutes, I realized that I am looking at the work of a very talented photographer. I immediately emailed him again and asked to write a guest post, because I felt that his photography had to be shared with the photography community. Unfortunately, he got extremely busy with traveling and photography, so he did not have a chance to do it then. During the last two years, he kept on sending me his beautiful pictures. So a couple of weeks ago I sent another request and I was finally able to persuade him to write a guest post, along with some of his beautiful pictures. Enjoy! "

I was notified by Photographer’s Forum magazine that two of my images are finalists for their spring photo competition and will be published in the hard-cover book “Photographer’s Forum Best of Photography 2012” in December. They had over 12,000 entries from 62 countries. Here are my two finalists that will be in the book. I added a third image to show the “before” of one of the images.

Canon 400 f5.6 and Canon 1.4x II teleconverter for sale
Well, I sold both lenses today. Also sold my old 2XII Now just a couple other items
to sell.
One is the 400 f5.6. Funny, that is the third and only lens with a ding in the filter threads but otherwise pretty close to perfect. KEH gave it an "Excellent" rating today but I decided to give it a try selling myself instead as it's such an 'in demand' lens all the time. That one I'll sell for $850.
The last item is a well used Canon 1.4x II teleconverter. Shows plenty of cosmetic wear on the paint but glass is fine. I have three because I misplaced this one a while back and bought another before finding this one. Then I bought the latest III. Sure don't need 3 of them but having 2 has been nice. $110 in perfect working order.

Two Canon lenses for sale
Jim is selling two Canon lenses
I'm selling two lenses. Both are "L" lenses. The 70-200 f2.8 non IS and the 17-35 f2.8.
As you know I'm normally very good on my equipment but both of these have a ding on the filter threads in front but are otherwise in excellent condition with almost no wear showing at all.
I'm thinking about $600 for the 17-35. It's a solid lens and cheaper than the newer 16-35 which are almost $1600.
The 70-200 I'd like $700. The new one is $2500!! That one is in super condition other than the same ding on the filter threads. B&H wants $1000 with a decent amount of wear for that one.
Both come with boxes etc as purchased. I think they were like $1500 each when I bought them.

I have been getting questions about the new ACR (in Lightroom called the 2010 versus the 2012 "process") and I happened upon this so I though I would pass it along.
The new 2012 process is awesome! If you do not have CS6 or LR4 and you shoot rAW then you should run our NOW and upgrade. The difference is HUGE!

definitely worth reading, but more importantly -- make sure that you have access to the "2012 process"
So What is the Exclamation Point ?
If you see an exclamation mark icon in the Develop module to the right of an image this indicates that it has applied to it a process version that isn’t the current version for the version of Lightroom you are using.
If you want to update an image, click the icon and select to update the image or select to update all the filmstrip photos. You can preview the changes before they are applied if desired.

Betty's Skies, Textures and Composites Post Processing Workshop
Saturday Sept 8th 1-4pm in Hamden CT
Join Betty Wiley for this 3 hour workshop on replacing skies and using various texture overlay techniques to enhance images. This post processing workshop will be an intensive, hands-on class and students are asked to bring ~3 of their own images to work on.
Betty will be presenting a brief slide show with images she has worked on and transformed using various different techniques. This will be followed by a step-by-step demonstration which will be accompanied by a written hand-out which will allow the student to follow along. The remainder of the workshop will be spent with students working on their own images using the techniques that Betty has demonstrated.
The goal of this workshop will be for each student to leave with a thorough understanding of the processes and techniques involved so that they are competent to do this on their own. Betty will also provide each student with a CD of skies and textures that they can take home. If you have wanted to learn how to replace boring, drab skies and use textures to add drama and impact to your images, now is the chance!
Need To Bring: Students will need laptops or a portable desktop with either Photoshop or Photoshop Elements (a version that supports layers and masking, 9 or 10 work well) and 3-4 images that they want to work on that are preloaded onto their laptop/desktop or on a thumb drive so they can be found easily.
If you do not have a laptop or desktop you can bring, you may share with a friend if that works for you.

**While high proficiency is not required for Photoshop or Elements, knowledge of how to navigate the programs, download images from a CD and find them, and move them around your laptop and software programs is required.**

Betty Wiley is an award-winning photographer who currently resides in Massachusetts on Cape Cod. Her favorite subjects are birds and wildlife and she is an accomplished landscape photographer. She also loves photographing children and operates a small studio out of her home, AvaGrace studio (www.Avagracestudio.com). Retired shortly over 3 years ago from a long, rewarding and successful career in the biotech industry where she specialized in licensing products to treat rare genetic diseases, she loves having the freedom now to pursue her passion for photography. She belongs to several local camera clubs, Cape Cod Art Association Camera Club (CCAACC) where she was named “photographer of the year” for 2010, and also to Cape Cod View Finders Camera Club (CCVFCC) where her image of sandhill cranes won "image of the year" for 2011. Betty recently received a commendable award in the International Nature Photography competition sponsored by the Audubon Society. Betty's images frequently appear in Cape Cod magazine and she was featured in a photo essay which appeared in the July (2011) issue which showcased some of her images taken on Cape Cod and the islands. Betty is also a Getty image contributor and has sold work to companies such as American Eagle Outfitters.
Here's an opportunity to learn from the master, you'll leave this workshop with all the tools you'll need to create your own works of art.

From a toddler left on street to a tiger roaming near a convenience store – “with its supposedly neutral gaze, the Street View photography had a spontaneous quality unspoiled by the sensitivities or agendas of a human photographer,” says Jon. The original pictures were actually shot by an army of Google’s hybrid electric automobiles, each equipped with 9 cameras on a single pole. On Friday and Saturday the 7th and 8th Milford Photo is hosting KEH camera brokers who'll be up the street at the Milford Center for the Arts (www.milfordarts.org) buying camera gear from 9am to 4pm both days.
This should be a great opportunity to meet with a representative from one of the largest camera brokerage firms in the world and move some gear you're not using anymore. Please only stuff in clean, working order film or digital over 5 meg only: no polaroid, movie or video gear. Visit the store website for more details shortly.

I persuaded the movie theater at a summer resort to play it before a movie we went to see. Both of our families were there to see it. photography workshop exploring the beauty of autumn on Cape Cod.
September 24th, Chatham, MA. 6am to 7pm.
This
workshop will be held on a weekday (Monday, September 24) with a rain
date of Tuesday, September 25th. September weekends can often be busy
with tourists so we selected a weekday in order to maximize our shooting
opportunities.
We
will explore some of Betty's favorite locations on idyllic Cape Cod in
and around Yarmouth and Chatham. Many of her photographs have appeared
in Cape Cod Magazine and a photo essay of Betty and her work appeared in
the July 2011 issue last summer. Most recently, her photograph was
chosen as the cover image for “Chatham Magazine”, an annual publication
on Cape Cod. As a full-time resident, Betty knows "The Cape" and it's
many beautiful locations.
